Thomas Nelson Steed was born March 10, 1833 in Coweta County, Georgia[1].
In 1850, he lived in Coweta County with his parents and siblings[2].
He married Elizabeth Frances Hearne 19 FEB 1831, in Montgomery County, North Carolina[1].
Thomas enlisted as a Private in Company H, 18th Texas Infantry (Ochiltree's) at Jefferson, TX on June 24, 1862. He was promoted to 3rd Sergeant prior to November 1862. He was reduced to ranks on an undisclosed date. Thomas was captured at Fort De Russy, Louisiana on March 14, 1864, and confined at New Orleans, Louisiana on March 20, 1864. He was exchanged at Red River Landing on July 22, 1864.
