Biography
When my fifth great grandfather, Henry Washington Stegall, was born in 1804 in North Carolina, his father, Solomon, was 41 and his mother, Mary, was 29. He was married three times, first to my fifth great grandmother, Amanda Tarrant, on 14 Oct 1838 in Monroe, Mississippi, USA; their known children are:
- Henry Lafayette (1825–1897)
- Massalona 'Tonie' (1836–1905)
- Lucinda 'Lou' (1838–)
- Sarah 'Sallie' (1840–1910)
- Alabama (1844–1875)
- Elizabeth Louise (1844–1929)[1]
- Tennessee 'Tennie' (1848–1932)
- Georgia (1850–)
- Brooks (1855–)
Amanda died in 1859 and he married Sarah 'Sallie' Spence (1841–1876) on 26 May 1861 in Itawamba, Mississippi;[2] their known children are:
- Francis Barstow (1862–1941)
- Reuben D (1863–)
- Henry Gaines (1867–1939)
- John S (1869–)
- Hattie (1872–1894)
- Woodie Clayton (1876 [actually March 1875]–1957)
Sallie died in January of 1876 and he married Mary J 'Mollie' Harris (1848–1924) on 31 Mar 1877 in Monroe, Mississippi; their known children are:
- Mamie B (1882–1953)
He died on August 9, 1886, in Smithville, Mississippi, having lived a long life of 82 years, and was buried in Fulton, Mississippi.[3]
