Birth and Family
Matthias was born 21 October 1723 at Framingham, Massachusetts, the son of Samuel Stone and Hannah Searle.[1][2] Both parents died before he was three years old and he was raised by his blind grand-uncle David Stone.[1]
Matthias married first on 16 November 1749 in Worcester, Massachusetts to Susanna Chadwick, daughter of John and Hannah (___) Chadwick. They had 15 children. Susanna died 6 March 1789 in Claremont, New Hampshire.[1]
Matthias maried second in Barre, Massachusetts on 23 July 1789 to Huldah Fletcher,[3] daughter of Judith Fox and Rev. Nathan Stone, and widow of Azariah Bangs and Capt. Jonathan Fletcher. There were no children from this marriage.[1] Huldah died 5 October 1809 at Cabot, Vermont.[4]

Residence
Matthias removed to Worcester in 1748. In 1756 he removed to Barre, Massachusetts and in 1773 he left to live in Claremont, New Hampshire, where he served in the Revolutionary War. About 1795, he moved to Cabot, Vermont, where he lived the rest of hs life. [1]
In the 1790 United States Census, he is recorded in Claremont, Cheshire, New Hampshire.[18]
Death
Matthias died on 20 December 1814in Cabot, Vermont, aged 91 years.[1][19] He was buried at Durant Cemetery, Cabot, Washington County, Vermont.[20]
