"James Hanover Donnan, a Methodist minister, was my great, great, grandfather. From Virginia, he married Maria Stoney of Hilton Head, SC. They established home in what was then the Laurens District of South Carolina. Maria Stoney was born 1784 and the daughter of John Stoney, (b. Ireland 1748; d. Hilton Head Island 1821). Their son, John Stoney Donnan (b. l805; d.l888) had eight children including six sons." - Mr. Hugh Donnan is a descendant of hers. Hugh Hawkins Donnan
