Note: Edward is still alive in 1802 at the time of his son Richard's Upper Canada Land Petition, as he gives an affidavit for him.

Petitions states "he has resided under the British government since 1778 and served in Sir John Johnson's regiment during the American War. That he took up 200 acres in the Eastern district which he lived on for some time but from a dispute with Allan Patterson, for the said lot, he has been disposed and remains now to be determined on by a court of law. Now without means to support his family, having no means to purchase a farm, asks for 200 acres in this district."
Microfilm Reel #C-2814 - Upper Canada Land Petitions, National Archives of Canada.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Edward by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Edward:
Edward Stooks (my 6x ggf) was baptized in Nov.1746 in Marbletown, NY. DNA matches on Ancestry confirm link to his parents/siblings. His parents are listed on his baptism record as Richard Stooks and Mary Scheef. That family also used the spelling Stokes a lot. Mary's first name is also listed as Grietje and Margriet, and her last name is also spelled Schever on other records. Edward had brothers Richard b.1745 and John b.1753 who my grandmother has dna matches from.
Edward had a 1st wife, Lidia Krom (b.1747)...they had a son in 1773 in Marbletown, named Johannes Krom Stokes. I think that is Edward's son John C. Stooks. John C. is listed as 88 on the 1861 Cdn Census.
I found this information while trying to prove that John C. Stooks was Edward's son. John made a land petition as the son of Edward who had served in the KRRNY. The regimental history had only one Edward Stooks.
You have my full approval to continue with this merge as the two "Edward Stooks" are an obvious match.
My only comment about the merging of the wife - Remember that the Schauer were a German family, not long from the "old country", hence the given name "Annatje". However in an english speaking community Annatje would soon become Anna or Hannah. I doubt if there were two women named "Anna Schauers" who both married the same two husbands: Jacob Sipes & Edward Stooks.
Stookes-5 and Stooks-26 appear to represent the same person because: same person. birth dates are just estimates - no sources given for Edward's age, so either age could be used.
