Biography

This profile is part of the Stout Name Study.

James Stout II, son of James I and Catherine (Simpson) Stout, was born in Amwell, Hunterdon County, New Jersey in 1715. [1] It has long been accepted that he married Jemima Reeder there about 1740; [2] [3] however, documentation of that marriage is suspect, and it is arguable that it was, instead, Jemima Titus.

In 1753 a parsonage for the Presbyterian Church of First Amwell in Hunterdon (Mercer) County was purchased, and James Stout’s name was on the subscription list. [4] [5]

He was only about 33 years-old when he died in Amwell on some date after 08 Aug 1754 (the date of his will). [6]

James and Jemima were the parents of:

  1. Abel m Williampe Wyckoff and emigrated to Virginia
  2. Caleb m Elizabeth Labaw emigrated to Harrison County, Virginia (WV) [7]
  3. James III m (1) Penine Osborn (2) Esther Higgins
  4. Amy m Abraham Clayton
  5. Mary m David Labaw
  6. Elinor m Elijah Larrison [8] [9]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
