Heinrich C. Stradtmann wrote on the back of one of his immigration documents that his father died in April 1851. Searches of online databases, as well as perusal of LDS microfilms and other records, have failed to find any link between this family and other Stradtmanns who lived in the area of Celle. No given name is yet available. It is entirely possible that "Stradtmann" was adopted as a surname at the time of Heinrich C Stradtmann's birth in 1820, changed from a non-German family name. Celle had received many displaced people in the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars, and there was notable hostility toward them which would have provided an incentive for someone with a Slavic name (for example) to Germanize it.
