Biography

Johanna was born in 1813 or 1814. Her name in the Prussian church records is given as Hanne Regine Streek. In 1868, Johanna, her husband Christian Friedrich, three sons, and two daughters emigrated to the United States. [|Here is the passsenger record.]They traveled on the [|sailing ship John Bertram], which departed from Hamburg and arrived in New York. They were headed for Maple Grove, Minnesota. According to family lore, the trip took 7 weeks. An announcement of her death from the Cambridge Independent:[1] She died at the home of her son, Christian Boettcher, in Bradford township, in January 1899 at the advanced age of 84 years and seven months. She had been sick but 2 weeks. The Cambridge Independent story implies that she was born in June,1814. Her marriage record states her age as 21 years and 8 months on December 26, 1834. That would imply that she was born in April, 1813. Her gravestone reports her birth year as 1814.
