Biography

Edward John Strelka was born on 19 September 1909 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States, son of John Frank Strelka (1883–1960) and Martha Zalewski (1885–1930).

In 1920, Edward (10) was in the household of John Strelka in Milwaukee Ward 13, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. [1]

In 1930, Edward (20) was in the household of John Strelka in Milwaukee (Districts 1-250), Milwaukee. [2]

Edy (23) married Ethel Margaret Corrigan (23) (born on 4 October 1909 in Ashland, Ashland, Wisconsin; daughter of Thomas Joseph Corrigan and Emma Jane (Firmenich) Cook) on 8 July 1933 in Milwaukee.

In 1940, Edward (30) was living in Ward 13, Milwaukee, Milwaukee City. [3]

Edy passed away on 2 May 1990 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, aged 80. He was buried in Saint Marys Cemetery, Random Lake, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin.[4] [5] [6]. They were originally interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee.

The Grocery Business

Edy ran a grocery store in Milwaukee in 1940s/1950s called “Edy’s Food Market.” It is listed in the 1950 Milwaukee City Directory. It was the earliest year it could be found. It was located at 2900 N 7th St. Today that location is still a food store called 7th Street Foods, though the area may be a bit different. It’s also shown a bit in the video mentioned below and linked in the video description.

Before that, in 1937, it looks like Edy worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railway Company as a Yard Clerk according to railroad employment records.[7] According to his obituary, he also ran a place called “Edy’s Recreation” on E. Clarke St.

There is some home video footage from the 1940s of Edy, along with many of his wife's family. Edy's footage is bookmarked in a few places in the video. Just view the video description and click on the timestamps. It will take you there automatically.
