John Strickland Sr. RS-NC, born about 1729 in Isle of Wight County,English Province of Virginia. Died 1788 in Robeson County, North Carolina. Parents of this person is unproven and confusing at this writing. The majority of present day researchers have determined that he is a son of a William Strickland of English Province of Virginia and/or old Bladen or old Halifax County, English Province of North Carolina.
Wife, Elizabeth ??? (nee: unknown), born between 1729-1732 in English Province of Virginia or North Carolina. Probably died in Robeson County, North Carolina.
Its unclear if this part was noted by profile PM or was included in the information copied from the John F. Wise Site
PLEASE NOTE: There is much conflicting and confusing information among researchers on just who the parents are of this JOHN. Just about everyday later information is found or rationalized that logically disproves or discredits previously derived information. It is for this reason that I have deleted all subsequent STRICKLAND ancestor entries from this Ahnentafel Report. Present day researchers have determined that this person's father was a WILLIAM STRICKLAND, but there are so many WILLIAM STRICKLAND's existing in NC that his father's identity is speculative at best. Based on all information presently available to me, John could be the son of William Strickland, Jr. (b. c1690) and his wife Mary Whitehead, of Isle of Wight, English Province of Virginia, OR William Strickland and his wife Oliff (Olive) Pittman, of the English Province of NC. I ask all family members to please "stay loose" on this right now, i.e., because there are at least a "zillion" people researching and sorting out North Carolina Stricklands at this writing. This research has been going on for over 70 years now - - and it is just a matter of time (hopefully) before a tidbit of information is found that will pin down the correct, or at least determine who his "most logical" parents could be.
Children of John Strickland Sr. RS-NC and his wife Elizabeth ??? are(there may be more children):
John Strickland Jr. RS-NC, born about 1749 in old Edgecombe County, English Province of North Carolina [location became part of Halifax County, North Carolina]. Died 1838 at home on his plantation located between Mushmelon and Watermelon Creeks, Tattnall County, Georgia. Married 153. Appa (Appie) ??? between 1768-1770 in old Bladen County, English Province of North Carolina. Descendants recorded in a family Bible that his wife Appie was a mixed Cherokee and Lumbee Native American Indian and a "Princess," i.e., a daughter of a Lumbee Indian Chief or sub-Chief (English white man's titles) from southeastern North Carolina, i.e., a part of North Carolina where Cherokees and Lumbees settled along the main Lumbee (now called Lumbar) River. His wife Appie was also an older cousin or Aunt to the sisters Treacy and Mercy Martin, who were also called Indian "Princesses" - - and who married his son David Jonathan Strickland (1780-1873), as well as his grandson John Strickland Sr. (1804-1879), respectively. Descendants documented that John, his father, his uncles, and his brothers are said to have all been Revolutionary Militia Soldiers of North Carolina, but a record of their service has not been found as of this writing.
Flora Strickland, born about 1755 in old Bladen County, English Province of North Carolina [now Robeson County, North Carolina]. Died date unknown on old Harrisburg County, Texas [now Harris County, Texas]. Married Richard Vince Sr. RS-SC about 1784-1785 in Screven County, Georgia. Husband was the brother of Captain Joseph Vince RS-SC.
David Strickland, born about 1756 in old Bladen County, English Province of North Carolina [now Robeson County]. Died date unknown in Wayne County, Georgia. Married Elizabeth ??? (surname unknown) in old Bladen County, English Province of North Carolina [now Robeson County].
Joel Joseph Strickland, born about 1758 in old Bladen County, English Province of North Carolina [now New Hanover County, North Carolina]. Died about 1835 in Wayne County, Georgia. Married his 1st cousin Elizabeth Strickland about 1789 in old Darlington County (i.e.,the old Cheraws Nest settlement, Cheraws District), South Carolina. Joel may have been married before marrying his wife Elizabeth. After his father's death in Robeson County, North Carolina, Joel apparently moved and took over his brother John's lands in Darlington, South Carolina - - and then later migrated with his family to Georgia.
