Biography

Joseph Strong, Jr. was born in Northampton, Massachusetts, on July 25, 1701, the son of Justice Joseph Strong and Sarah Allen. ^{[1] [2] [3]}

On May 12, 1724, he married, in Coventry, Connecticut, Elizabeth Strong, daughter of Preserved Strong and Tabitha Lee, of Coventry. Joseph and Elizabeth were both great-grandchildren of John Strong, thus they were second cousins. Children: ^{[1] [3] [4]}

1. Joseph, born April 13, 1726; died December 16, 1727, aged 19 months.^[1][5]
2. Elizabeth, born February 2, 1727-8; married Dea. Richard Hale; died April 21, 1767.^[1][6][7]

Joseph was a farmer in Coventry, Connecticut. He was a selectman for 13 years, a long time justice of the peace, and for 34 years (1739-73), deacon of the First Congregational church. He was for nine sessions a member of the General Assembly and was much in public life. ^[1]

Joseph Strong died in Coventry, Connecticut on April 9. 1773, at the age of 71. He was buried at Nathan Hale Cemetery in Coventry. ^{[1] [3] [23]}
