In 1860, the couple lived with their children on a farm in Greenbrier County, Virginia, adjacent to the property of Sabina's aunt, Elizabeth Reid (with whom she had been raised) and parents. Thomas' occupation was listed as farmer, and he reported real estate valued at $30,000 and personal property worth $18,000.[4] The couple also owned 5 slaves (2M, 3F).[5]
Sabina died on April 26, 1862, in Greenbrier County, Virginia, at the age of about 24.[6] Her husband died two weeks later, leaving four children under the age of 5, including a newborn only two months old. The grandchildren were raised by Sabina's parents in Kansas.
