Biography

Mary was a Friend (Quaker)

Mary was born in 1738. She was the daughter of Robert Stuart and Martha Richardson. On August 25, 1757, she is listed in the Reading Monthly Meeting along with her family in the certificate for Cane Creek, North Carolina Monthly Meeting.

"A certificate for Robert Stewart, his wife & six children, viz: Jehu, Mary, Issac, Catherine, Rachel and Gravener, to be joined to Friends of Cane Creek, was brought to this meeting, read and signed and sent to the Women with directions for them to return it after signing, that a copy may be taken which the clerk is directed to do."[1]
Last Will and Testament

Mary died in 1806 and her estate was probated on February 21, 1806 in Guilford County, North Carolina.[2]

"Know by all men by these presents that I Mary Taylor of Guilford, North Carolina am weak and indisposed in body but of sound disposing mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following:"
"First I will that all the just debts that I shall owe at the time of my decease be well & truly paid and discharged in convenient time by my hereafter named Executors"
"Item - I give and bequeath unto my four sons Nathan, Simon, Thomas and Alexander Taylor five shillings each, also to my son John Taylor deceased I give five shillings."
"Item - I give and bequeath unto my two daughters Ruth and Lydia Rose five shillings."
"Item - I give and bequeath unto my four daughters Jean Starbuck, Phebe Felphs, Esther Bingerman, and Anna Ferrington, all the remaining part of my estate of whatsoever name or nature so be equally divided between them not preferring one above another."
"And lastly I constitute appoint and make my son-in-law William Starbuck & my friend Hezekiah Starbuck Executors jointly of this my last will and testament."
