In 1826, when he was in his early twenties, he married Rebecca Tompkins. She bore him eight known children, two sons and six daughters:
On 13 October 1856, when he was fifty-two, Solomon died of unknown causes in Willard, Carter County, Kentucky.

Bio: My 3rd great-grandfather...Solomon was the son of John and Jemima Wells Sturgill, both of Virginia. He was one of possibly 15 children. Solomon married Rebecca Tompkins around 1826. Solomon and Rebecca were blessed with ten children: Benjamin, Sarah, Elizabeth, Nancy, John Frances, Matilda, Jemima, Rebecca, Solomon and my 2nd great grandmother, Amanda Rice Sturgill.
