Virginia was born in 1912.
She grew up on the family farm in Winkler Kansas, one of six children. Virginia and Roy X. Carlson married on May 23rd at Virginia's family farm. They met while Roy worked as a hired hand on a neighboring farm.
After marriage they had a farm in Leonardville, Kansas where Roy raised cattle, pigs and farmed the land. Virginia raised chickens and used the eggs as trade for milk, fruits etc. Virginia also kept a large, and I mean HUGE, garden. She canned all the excess to feed her family throughout the year. She was also an excellent seamstress. She made clothing, curtains, bedding, etc. All of this made her a very busy lady, but on top of that she was a fantastic cook and baker. She was well known for her pies.
In 1981 they sold their farm and moved to a small house in the town of Leonardville where they lived out the rest of their lives. A few months before her death, she was diagnosed with Leukemia which she passed from in 1998. . [1]
