Anne Svihra has Scottish Ancestors.
Anne Svihra has Slovak Roots.

My genealogical interests lie mainly in Scotland and Slovakia as that was where my parents were born. Areas of particular interest in Scotland include North Uist, Isle of Skye, and Grantown and the surrounding area. Some areas that I am especially interested in in Slovakia are Banská Bystrica, Tisovec, Hnúšťa, and Červená Skala. For surnames of interest, check out my family tree here on WikiTree.

Helping you

Cemeteries & Gravestone Photos: I may be able to visit a cemetery to find/photograph your ancestor's gravestone in York Region, Peel Region, or Simcoe County in Ontario, Canada. I will then upload the photo to your ancestor's profile page on WikiTree. (Please note that although I really enjoy helping others with their family trees, photographs taken by me are not to be shared or published elsewhere.)

I have burial records/cemetery surveys from Ontario Genealogical Society or my own photographs of gravestones from the following cemeteries:

  • Bolton Anglican Cemetery, Bolton (Peel)
  • Bolton Methodist Cemetery, Bolton (Peel)
  • Kleinburg Cemetery, Kleinburg (York)
  • Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bolton (Peel)
  • Nashville Cemetery, Kleinburg (York)
  • Orthodox Friends Burying Ground, Newmarket (York)
  • Shiloh Cemetery, Brampton (Peel)

So if your ancestors were buried in one of those cemeteries, I may already have info on them or photos of their gravestones that haven't made their way on to WikiTree yet.

My Library: Let me know if you would like me to look up information for you from the following books in my personal library:

Canada (Ontario):

  • A History of Vaughan Township (1971) by G. Elmore Reaman

Scotland:

  • Croft History, Isle of North Uist, Volume 2 (1995) by Bill Lawson
  • Croft History, Isle of North Uist, Volume 3 (2001) by Bill Lawson
  • Croft History, Isle of North Uist, Volume 4 (2004) by Bill Lawson
  • Croft History, Isle of North Uist, Volume 5 (2007) by Bill Lawson
  • Croft History, Isle of North Uist, Volume 6 (2019) by Bill Lawson
  • The Great Book of Skye 2 (2016) by Norman Macdonald and Cailean Maclean
  • Scotland: The Great Book of Skye 3 (2018) by Norman Macdonald and Cailean Maclean

Slovakia:

  • Majer (2018) by Vladimír Sklenka, Peter Račko, Lívia Baláková (Note: This book is in the Slovak language and is about the former town and current neighbourhood of Banská Bystrica (not the surname). It contains helpful census data on all 29 households in Majer from December 31, 1869 as well as names from the 1715 and 1770 census records.)

Helping me

Brick Walls: Perhaps you could take a moment and see if you could help me with one of my brick walls.

  • Eduardus Nachtnebel (1837-) -- He was born in Zlatno, in the glass factory area of the village, today in Poltár District, Slovakia. He was recorded on his baptism record as illegitimate with an unknown father, and his mother's (Anna Nachtnebel's) parents and origin are unknown to me. His godparents were Petrus & Johanna Fürst. I don't expect to find anything about who his father was, but I would love to learn more about his mother, Anna, or even his godparents.
  • Johan Svihra (bef.1808-) -- His birth place and parents are unknown, but he is the earliest Svihra I was able to trace in my direct ancestry. He was Lutheran/Evanjelický when he married Susanna Jakubovje in 1821 in the village of Majer, which today, is a neighbourhood in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. My paternal grandfather apparently had traced our Svihra branch back to Žilina Region--possibly Liptovský Mikuláš or the surrounding area.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Anne or other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA. Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz. As Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within a project is essential. You already have tags for other projects, but the one below may be of interest

Please ensure locations are entered on all profiles and data matches the dates of the profile. Avoid abbreviations, add sources with citations & links for sources to support the data. From wiki ID go to Research to find sources.  Please review Help Sources  /  Source for pre1700 Profiles  /  Pre-1700 Cite reliable sources  Sources Canada

The CANADA Project would be of interest. Adding the tag CANADA will provide updates on the project.  Follow this link for your Tags:   your tags

Hi Anne,

The Global Cemeteries Project is currently undergoing our member check-in and wanted to verify that you are still active and interested in being a member of the project. Are you currently assigned to or working with one of our Cemetery Teams? If not, is there a particular Team or area you are interested in participating with? I would be delighted to help you get setup in one or more of our collaborative teams!

We use Google Groups for internal project collaboration, so if you are not yet setup for access feel free to submit a join request and we will get that approved as quick as possible. We also ask that members check their follwed tags to make sure you are following the correct project tag (CEMETERIES) so you don't miss any disucssions in G2G.

Last, but not least, we would like to thank you for all of your contributions to WikiTree and let you konw that any ideas or suggestions for improvement you may have for the Global Cemeteries Project would greatly appreciated!

I look forward to hearing form you soon!

Hi Steve,

I'm active and still interested in being a part of the project. I already joined the Ontario Cemeteries Team and am adding York Region cemeteries as well as adding profiles and gravestone photos for local cemeteries that I photographed in the last few years. I hadn't joined the Google Group for the project yet, so I just requested to join. I'm already following the Cemeteries tag, so I think I'm otherwise all set!

Thanks, Anne

Would you consider adding our languages template to your biography? It really helps to know the languages of WikiTree members. For example, if you speak Slovakian and English, you could copy the following code, then edit your own profile, paste it as a top line, and save.

{{ Languages | sk | en-3 }}

That will place a box on your profile which lets others know which languages you are comfortable with.
