DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

I am delighted to see that the Swift/Swyft family has been researched and included in the following series. I am sorry to have missed it until now.

In "The Swift family; historical notes" page one, by Katherine Swift (Publication date 1955), it states: "William Swift was born August 28, 1654 and was a carpenter by trade. He married Elizabeth Thomson, who was born in 1654. She was the daughter of Lieutenant John Thomson, who married Mary, daughter of Francis Cooke of the Mayflower.

If anyone has sources for Elizabeth's last name, please add them. FamilySearch shows an Elizabeth Thompson from Barnstable born at the right time but no marriage record.

After reading the comments below, I am somewhat confused by Elizabeth's surname of Thompson and why people feel that surname should be removed from her profile ? Has it been proven she is not at all a Thompson/Tompson ? When I read the notation in her bio, I understand that to mean that it has been proven she was not the daughter of a specific John Tomson, but I did not take that to mean she is not at all a 'Tompson', Was she a Tompson, but as to who her father was is not known ?
A search for the SWIFT name produces a large number of pages in this book. As with all books it is important to use them as a guide for finding original documents.

I second Judith's comment below. PM, please acknowledge these comments, either with your thoughts against this change, or by just making the change. Thanks.

Should the surname of Thomson/Thompson be removed from this profile since this has been disproven? I am willing to do so but would appreciate any thoughts before I do.
