Henry joined the army 27 February 1862 in Guildford, NC [2]
He passed away in 1862 in the General Hospital, Petersburg, Virginia of typhoid. This was after lengthy illness which may have included [per letters to his wife] dysentery, consumption [tuberculosis], and general unwellness. His letters to Aseneth were full of illness complaints from March, 1862 until his death on 13 September 1862. He was only 31 years of age and never saw actual combat due to his illnesses. [3]
