Biography

Christopher was a son of Sir John Talbot and Maud Neville.[1][2]

At the end of June 1435, "Christopher, son of John Lord Talbot, esquire" was recorded mustering archers and men at arms for service in France.[2]

John Talbot, knight, the elder, Christopher Talbot, knight, and others were granted the manor of Boulwas and Isombrugge, co. Salop, in June 1437.[3]

On 13 December 1442 the King's knight Christopher Talbot was granted for life an annual rent of 19 marks from the rents and farms of Edenstowe in Nottinghamshire.[4]

He was appointed a Commissioner of the Peace for Yorkshire, West Riding, in 1442[5] and for Salop in 1443.[6]

Marriage

The Shrewsbury accounts of 1442/1443 recorded a payment for bread and wine at a presentation to Christopher Talbot and his wife.[1] His wife's name is unknown.

Children

There is reference to a child of Christopher's being buried at Shrewsbury in 1443.[1]

Death

He was killed by Sir Griffith Vaughan / Griffin Vachan on 10 August 1443 at Caus Castle in Shropshire.[7][8] The exact circumstances are unclear.

It has also been recorded that in 1446 Sir Thomas Dacre was pardoned - save for any complicity in the felony of the death of Christopher Talbot, Knt.[1]

Research Notes

It was once believed that he fell with his brother John, at the Battle of Northampton in 1460.[9][10]
