Biography

Nancy became a member of the LDS Church between 1830 - 1848.

Nancy Melvina Tanner Lee was born in the state of Indiana, on February 7, 1840. Nancy's father was James Harrison Tanner. Her mother is listed as Cynthia Ann Bishop.[1]

During the time of the 1860 U.S. Census, Nancy (age 20) was living at home in St Albans, Hancock, Illinois, with her parents and siblings. Her father, Harrison (age 39), was farming his own land. Nancy's mother was taking care of a household of ten, which included a laborer by the name of Enis Suttle (age 21). [2]

Nancy had six siblings: [2]

  3. Joseph Bishop Tanner
  4. William Rodney Tanner
  5. Elizabeth Tanner
  6. Lydia Luella Tanner Carr

Nancy married Charles Henry Lee, on August 27, 1857, in Hancock County, Illinois, when she was 17 years old.[3]

Charles and Nancy were living in Osage, Miller County, Missouri, in 1870. They had five children by the time Nancy was 28 years old: [4]

By 1880, the Charles Lee family had relocated to Kansas. Their new home was in the town of Corinth, in Osborne County, Kansas. By this time, Nancy and Charles had six children. [5] In 1882 and again in 1885, Nancy gave birth to two more children. Their children's names were:

  1. Elmow Leroy Lee, b. September 19, 1860; m. Martha Loretta McCommis on December 1, 1889; d. January 5, 1938, Stoutland, Camden County, Missouri.
  2. Clarence S. Lee, b. 1864.
  3. Joseph Francis Lee, b. 1867 in Missouri; m. Luella Ricord; d. 1933 (age 65-66) in San Bernardino County, California.
  4. Rosa Melvina Lee York, b. April 25, 1870, d. April 29, 1955, in Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri.
  5. Martin Henry Lee, b. June 22, 1874, d. December 1, 1937 (age 63).
  6. James W. Lee
  7. Minnie R. Lee
  8. Sarah Belle Lee Pope, b. February 16, 1885, d. February 23, 1922 (age 37).

Nancy (age 46) died in Missouri, on August 26, 1886. She is buried at the Manes Cemetery, Pulaski County, Missouri. [1]
