Caution: I have added the lineage of Robert de Tateshall to George Tattershall, based upon the lineage stated in Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry, Volume 2, Tattershall or Tattersall of Lincolnshire, Essex, Kent and Surrey. The dispute is whether George Tattershall No. 2, husband of Katherine Perkins, is the son of John Tattershall or that according to Chronicles of Finchampstead: In the County of Berkshire By William Lyon (of Finchampstead), Burke's is inaccurate and John Tattershall should be the father of George Tattershall No. 1, husband of Anne Welles Perkins. The strong reasoning is laid out under Note:Corrected Lineage Regarding Burke's Landed Gentry in this Biography section, that George Tattershall No. 1 should be the correct son for John Tattershall.
Based on Burke's Landed Gentry, Volume 2, Robert De Tateshall would still connect to this Tattershall family regardless of who is the correct son of John Tattershall since George Tattershall and Katherine Perkins descend from this same line. - James Stratman
In Burke's ' Landed Gentry' George Tattershall (No. 2), of Stapleford, Wilts, is described as successor to this John Tattershall, and as having ' married Katherine, daughter of Francis Perkins, of Ufton, and purchased the estate of Finchampstead, Berks.'[1]
This does not appear to be correct. As stated above, George Tattershall (No. 1) married, in 1562, Anne, widow of William Perkyns, and there is strong reason for believing that, by a former marriage, he was the father of George Tattershall (No. 2), who married ' Katherine, daughter of.... Perkins, of Ufton, Berks ' (as described in the ' Visitation of Berks,' 1664-65), who was really the daughter of William and Anne Perkins, and not of Francis Perkins, their son.[1]
There were two ladies named Katherine Perkins : one was the daughter of William and Anne Perkins, of Ufton, the other was the daughter of Francis Perkins (son of William and Anne), and therefore granddaughter of William and Anne Perkins. Francis, son of William and Anne Perkins, was born between 1545 and 1556 : his son Francis was born in 1586, and therefore, had Katherine been his daughter, it is not likely that she could have been born earlier than 1584, in which case she certainly could not have been Mrs. George Tattershall (No. 2) in 1586.[1]
Katherine Tattershall was doubtless the daughter of William and Anne Perkins. The date of her marriage cannot be found ; but it is scarcely possible that it could have been later than 1575, and most probably it was much earlier. She is shown above as Mrs. George Tattershall in 1586. William Perkins was younger than his brother Richard, who was born in 1500, and therefore William could not have been born earlier than 1501 ; he died in 1558, leaving one son, Francis, and five daughters, the eldest of whom was Katherine ; a sixth daughter, Dorothy, was born after her father's death. George Tattershall (No. 2), who married Katherine Perkins, was in 1584 seized in fee of the Manor 'or Lordship of Finchampstead West Court, and of a watermill and divers lands in Finchampstead belonging to the said Manor.' [1]
George Tattershall, No. 4, was born in March, 1603. Assuming he was the eldest son, of which there is no doubt, his father, No. 3, may have married about 1601-2 ; and as 1664 early marriages were usual in those times, he might then have been about twenty-five years old, or born not later than 1576 ; this would make the marriage of No. 2 not later than 1575, and probably it was earlier. part 3...that George Tattershall (husband of Katherine Perkins) was the son of George Tattershall (husband of Anne Wells), except for pure speculation by William Lyon.
Furthermore, there isn't any "strong reasoning laid out" as so alleged by the Wikitreer, James Stratman. William Lyon simply makes a presumptuous leap based on zero evidence to reconstruct the Tattershall pedigree differently from what is found in Burkes Landed Gentry. Simply put, there is no factual basis to assume that George Tattershall (husband of Katherine Perkins) was the son of George Tattershall (husband of Anne Welles)!
part 2...(daughter of Francis Perkins). The George Tattershall who married Anne Welles was most likely from another branch of the Tattershall family and remotely related to the George Tattershall who married Katherine Perkins.
There hasn't been any evidence presented to support the less than accurate Tattershall pedigree found in the Chronicles of Finchampstead by William Lyon, which was largely constructed based on faulty conclusions not grounded in fact. There has been no evidence uncovered to suggest that George Tattershall who married Anne Welles had a previous marriage, nor is there any evidence that George Tattershall who married Katherine Perkins was the son of the George Tattershall who married Anne Welles.
Essentially, there isn't a shred of evidence to suggest that George T
A comment shared with me listed below. I am open to other genealogists who would like to be profile managers in this family.
The issue with this George Tattershall's (1525-1586) profile is that there is zero evidence that George Tattershall (b. 1520/25) had any children at all with Anne Welles. When Anne Welles married George Tattershall in c. 1559/60, she would have been roughly 40 years of age and had already given birth to seven children. Given the time period and the number of children she already had with her first husband, it would be unlikely that Anne Welles had any children at all with this George Tattershall. Burkes Landed Gentry states that John Tattershall of Hilden was the father of George Tattershall (died 1610) who married Katherine ...part 1
