As noted by Edith Gilcash in her history of Taylor Village, George Taylor was "the man who gave his name to this little village" (Gilcash, 1984, p. 13).

Birth and Christening George Taylor was born about the 22nd of June 1751, definitely before the 8th of June 1753, as this was the date on which he was christened in Almondbury, Yorkshire, England.[1] [2] He was the son of Joseph Taylor and Unknown.

In 1774, George and his brother, Michael, left Yorkshire to seek a better livelihood in North America. They sailed on the ship "Albion", from Hull, Yorkshire to Fort Cumberland, Nova Scotia.[3] [4] On the same ship was the family of William Chapman and Mary Ibbitson, including 9-year old Mary Chapman, who would later become George's wife. They were married about 1780 and had 15 children, whom they raised in Taylor Village, Dorchester Parish, Westmorland, New Brunswick.

George, Michael, and Abner Taylor petitioned the Crown for a land grant in Westmorland County, New Brunswick in 1810.[5]On 03 October 1812, Land Grant #633 was issued to George Taylor (600 acres), Michael Taylor (600 acres), Abner Taylor (300 acres), and 20 others for land in Salisbury, Westmorland County, New Brunswick. [6]

Marriage George married Mary Chapman. They were married about 1780 and had 15 children, whom they raised in Taylor Village, Dorchester Parish, Westmorland, New Brunswick.

Death and Burial George passed away on November 1, 1838, in Coverdale, Westmorland County (present-day Albert County), New Brunswick. [7] George was buried in Coverdale United Church Cemetery, Coverdale, Westmorland County (present-day Albert County), New Brunswick. [2] He was survived by 14 children, 104 grandchildren, 48 grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
