Biography

Narrative from Findagrave.com:[1]

Jacob Teagarden, born 1777 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, was the oldest child of William and Bethia Teagarden. As a child, he moved with his family to West Finley Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was the owner of almost 1,200 acres as well as a gristmill on Wheeling Creek. He was a West Finley Township supervisor in 1831.

He married Alassas (Alice) McGuire on January 20, 1807 and had 13 children and 55 grandchildren. She was one of four daughters of Scots-Irish immigrants John and Anna McGuire, each of whom married a son of William and Bethia Teagarden.

During the War of 1812, Jacob Teagarden enlisted in Captain Robert Reid’s Company, 1st Regiment (Denny’s) of the Ohio County, [West] Virginia Militia. He served as a private from July 28 to Sept. 6, 1813.

Jacob Teagarden died in West Finley Sept. 18, 1843, three months shy of his 68th birthday. According to “The Descendants of Abraham Tegarden,” published 1967, both he and Alassas are buried in West Finley, but the exact location is unknown.
