There is uncertainty about Mary's birth date, with her cemetery memorial (Find A Grave) reporting an improbable late date of 21 Nov 1817, which would have made her only 13 when her first child was born in 1831. More likely, the day and month are correct and she was born exactly two years earlier, a twin of her sister Hannah as suggested by Bauer (1984)[9].

Marriage
The accepted date of Mary's marriage to Henry (3 Feb 1831) is just one month before the birth of their first child Eva Ann, on 11 Mar 1831. This premature pregnancy provides a ready explanation why Mary married at such a young age (15 years, 3 months).
