Biography

Charles was born about 1740. He passed away in 1817.

Charles' marriage to Félicité Dugas was recorded in the missionary records for Restigouche, Port-Royal, Riv. St Jean and Percé, 1759-1795, October 18, 1774[1][2]. Though it was recorded then, the marriage must have occured in about 1772 as the child was born March 1773.

The baptism of their daughter, who was born on March 7th, 1773 and baptised by a neighbour, Jean Melanson, was officially recorded in the same records as above on October 15, 1774 in Restigouche.

Anne Marie Thibodeau was born March 7, 1773 and officially baptised October 15, 1774, by a missionary baptizing many others in Restigouche, Québec. The above source is good, but its interpretation needid enhancement. Anne Thibodeau should be replaced with Anne Marie Thibodeau. I will upload the image of her baptism record on her page.

It is highly unlikely that Charles Thibodeau was born in Annapolis Royal. His family lived at Pisiquid until the Deportation of 1755. There is no record of his birth in the parish registers of Annapolis Royal in 1740.

Charles' marriage to Félicité Dugas was recorded in the missionary records for Restigouche, Port-Royal, Riv. St Jean and Percé, 1759-1795, October 18, 1774. The baptism of their daughter, who was born on March 7th, 1773 and baptised by a neighbour, Jean Melanson, was officially recorded in the same records as above on October 15, 1774 in Restigouche. I will send images of those records by separate e-mail.

Do you have a location for this marriage? I went back to the 1772 estimated date as there was a child born before the 1774 official marriage. Actually I see a child born in 1770. Can you check that out? I assume these are the Bailley registers? If so, could you give page numbers so we could have a citation?

Thank you! Cindy

Here is a source from the My Family website that also has the above image: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-8993-WP6W?i=74&wc=HCV9-MNL%3A17745701%2C17745702%2C17745703&cc=1321742. A handwritten note at the top of the page indicates Baie Sainte-Marie, Ristigouche as the location of the church marriage of Charles Thibodeau and Anne Boudrot. This is the same source for the marriage of Étienne Thibodeau (Charles brother) and his wife. These records are not those of Father Baillie from Halifax. The official name of these records is "Registres des missionnaires de Ristigouche, Port Royal, Riv. St-Jean, Percé". They exist in Ancestry, but I couldn't find them. So I accessed them at My Family on March 30, 2024.

Thank you, Gérard. I posted it and found the corresponding entry in Drouin and posted that too. Now we need to find a better birth estimate for Marie Blanche who currently is estimated to have been born in 1770. Do you think you could find a record for her? I found a son Charles and added him and the marriage for Marie Blanche but no baptism for her yet. Cindy
