Christina Elisabetha Thomas was born 23 Jul 1778. She was christened 20 Sep 1778 at the Altalaha Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rehrersburg, Berks, Pennsylvania, daughter of Johannes Peter Thomas (1736-abt.1789) and Eva Marie (Sip) Thomas (1742-1817). [1]
Christina's father was killed by Indians, and they, with their mother Eva moved to Blair County. Because Christina and her sister Magdalena were minors under the age of 14, they were considered orphans even though their mother Eva was alive. Berks County Orphan Courts subsequent petitions were made on 25 March 1791 to allow Elizabeth and Catherine (both minors above the age of 14) to make a choice of guardian, and to name guardians for the two girls under the age of 14, Christina and Magdalena. Daniel Hoffman was named the guardian (husband of Eve Emmert, who was daughter of George Emmert (co-executor for the will of the girls maternal grandfather Dietrich Six). After Christina married Nicholas Hetrick in 1798, by the 1800 census they had moved to Mahonoy Twp., Northumberland Co., PA. Obviously, her mother and brother had moved to Northumberland, to be near Christina. [2]
The spelling of the name 'Tomes' was in dispute, but in 1896 it was found that Mr Martin Hess of Marklesburg had in his possession, an old hymn book that was owned by Christiana before her marriage, and this had her name on the fly-leaf. It also contained her family record.
Christina married Nicholas Hedrick 26 Nov 1798, in Harrisburg, Dauphin, Pennsylvania. They were of the Lutheran faith. [3]
Christina passed away 12 Apr 1848 (aged 69) in Blair County, Pennsylvania, and is buried in Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Shellytown, Blair County, Pennsylvania. [4]
