It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Claiborne by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Claiborne:
According to sources, Claiborn/Claiborne/Clayburn (not Clairborn) Thompson and Harmon Thompson were two separate children of Elswick Thompson & Martha "Patty" Akers Thompson. Harmon Thompson was born 07 Dec 1794 and married Nancy Richardson on 28 May 1813 in Campbell County, TN. Meanwhile, Claiborn/Claiborne/Clayburn Thompson was born in 1797 and married Amy/Nancy Wilson on 16 Mar 1818 in Montgomery County, VA. So, there is no "Clairborn Harmon Thompson." They are two different people. The error apparently stems from Archibald Thompson's diary, in which the name Clayburn was marked through, leaving Harman Thompson and his birth date, leading some to believe that "Clayburn Harman Thompson" was one person. But it was a correction of the birth entry for Harman/Harmon. Harmon Thompson and Phillip (Weigt) Thompson are both descendants of Elswick Thompson.
1. Harmon is the son of Elswick Thompson [unknown confidence]
This makes Elswick the father of Harmon.
1. Phillip is the son of Jay Thompson [non-biological]
2. Jay is the son of James Mitchell Thompson [confident]
3. Mitchell is the son of Lewis Thompson Jr. [unknown confidence]
4. Lewis is the son of Lewis Thompson [unknown confidence]
5. Lewis is the son of Elswick Thompson [confident]
This makes Elswick the third great grandfather of Phillip.
