"The marriage license for Ignatius Thompson (sp. "Ignacious Thomson") and Rebecca Ann Goff lists James Lamme as a witness to the marriage which took place in the home of Archibald [Goff], Osage, Morgan Co, in 1863. This Rebecca would have been abt 16-17 yrs old while Ignatius would have been about 20. He is listed with William and Emily Thompson on the 1860, Palestine, Cooper Co. Census, p. 108, as 17. "[2]
"Ignatius could also have been the son of Micajah Thompson who came to MO from KY and is listed in the 1840 Jackson, Johnson Co., MO Census p. 16 (lists 2 males under 5). The 1850 Census lists Micajah and wife Elizabeth (Micajah Thompson m. Elizabeth Mefford on 20 Nov 1832 in Pike Co. MO) as living in Dis.7, Dubuque Co., IA with an Ignatius C. Thompson, age 14. There would be an age discrepancy of 7 years with the 1860 Cooper Co. listing so they may or may not be the same person (how many Ignatius Thompsons could there be for this region?)."[3]
The William Thompson with whom Ignatius at age 17 is found in the 1860 Census was aged 53, b. Ohio; his wife Emily was aged 42 b Ohio; son Benjamin F. Thompson aged 4 b Iowa.
His sister Harriet Thompson b 1839 in Ohio appears in another 1850 Census entry for West Point, Lee, Iowa. Harriet is with Joseph P. Walker age 30 b KY, Cornelia Walker age 28 b KY, Albert Walker age 1 b Iowa, Thompson Walker age 28 b KY and Harriet Thompson age 12 b Ohio.[4]
This is Joseph Patterson Walker who is descended from the Wigton Walkers of Wigton, Scotland and Rockbridge County, Virginia.
Ignatius is aged 30 in the 1870 Census for Palestine Township, Cooper, Missouri. He was a farm laborer, said to have been born in Missouri. Wife Rebecca age 34 b Missouri; son William age 7 b MO; son John age 2 b MO.[5]
In 1880 Ignatius and Rebecca had five children: William, John, Robert, Thomas and Ada.[6]
His pension was dated 15 Sep 1897.[7]
