Possible match in Jackson, MI 1880 census at the state prison working as a broom maker, but birthplace (Massachusetts) and parents' birthplace don't match with Ohio given in the 1900 and 1910 census. It does align with Charlotte and their daughters living in Mason, MI without him that year.
Year: 1880; Census Place: Jackson, Jackson, Michigan; Roll: 585; Page: 446B; Enumeration District: 124
There is also a Benjamin Thompson, perhaps the same man, in the state prison at Jackson in 1860 whose birthplace (Kentucky) also doesn't match.
