Ari Þorgilsson (Are Torgilsson, Ari fróði (Are Frode, 'Are den vise'), född 1067, död 1148, var en medeltida isländsk krönikör, författare till Isländingaboken.
Ari 'the Wise' Þorgilsson (Ari Thorgilsson) was Iceland's most prominent medieval chronicler. He is the author of Íslendingabók, which details the histories of the various families who settled Iceland. He is typically referred to as Ari the Wise (Ari fróði), and according to Snorri Sturluson was the first to write history in Old Norse.
It is thought that the works he composed involving his contempories are probably valid - as the individuals on his geneology were in a position to refute his writings: many entries he made for the prior periods are considered disputable and there are numerous historians who regard his claim to be descended from Thorkell Eyjolfsson as a fabrication.
