Biography

Elizabeth Thorn was born on March 6, 1696 in Hingham, Massachusetts Bay Colony. She was the daughter of Joseph and Joanna (Pinson) Thorn.

Elizabeth married William Hooper on April 30, 1722 in Hingham after filing their marriage intention on April 14, 1722. Interestingly, Elizabeth's sister, Rachel with fiancé Deming Egre, also filed their "Purpose of Marriage" on that same day, and Rachel and Deming were married in Hingham on the same day, i.e. April 30th. Elizabeth and sister Rachel were both described as daughters of Joseph Thorn in their marriage records. Elizabeth and William were married by Rev. Nehemiah Hobart as were also Rachel and Deming.

Elizabeth and William resided in Hingham until about 1735, when they gave deed of land to Elizabeth's sister, Lydia Thorn, on February 24, 1735 and removed to North Yarmouth, Cumberland, Maine (See Pope and Hooper's "Hooper Genealogy", p. 10).

Elizabeth and William had seven children, five of whom were born in Hingham and two born in North Yarmouth. Their children born in Hingham included Mary b. 1723, Elizabeth b. 1724-5, William b. 1726-7, Sarah b. 1728, and Rose b. 1730. The two children born in North Yarmouth were John b. abt. 1737, and Rachel b. 1739.

Pope and Hooper in their "Hooper Genealogy" (see Sources below), note two baptisms in North Yarmouth: "Elizabeth, wife of William Hooper," baptized on September 3, 1758; and her son, young John, on June 28, 1752. Other town records that appear include birth record for daughter Rachel on April 4, 1739 in Cumberland County, as well as marriage record on January 10, 1765 in same Cumberland County for son John and his marriage to Lydia Baker.

Elizabeth likely passed away in North Yarmouth. Exact vital details are pending additional research.
