Also in the household was Hager Thorp, a 30-year-old Black woman. John was a farmer who owned $4,000 in real estate. William was a carpenter.[1]
On 3 July 1860, John W. and Patty C. Tharp, their children Hariet S. and Mary, servant Hagar Horton, and "cohire" John L. Larison lived in Chester, John was a farmer. The family owned $3,000 in real estate and $700 in personal estate.[2]
On 23 July 1870, John and Patty Thorp, farm laborer Charles Hofer[?], and Hetty Horton lived in Chester. John was a farmer. The family owned $5,000 in real estate and $500 in personal estate,[3]
He passed away about 1872.
John William Thorp was buried in Chester Congregational Cemetery in Chester, Morris County, New Jersey.[4]
