Biography

Buried in Franklin plot in Magnolia cemetery, Andalusia, Alabama.

As related to me by Tom Franklin-

"As to the Brooks family, you probably already have the information that I could supply. My mother always said her ancestors were Scotch/Irish. Her mother's maiden name was Theodosia Threllkill. She and her husband, William Pickens Brooks settled in Orangeburg County South Carolina where they had a family of nine children. Their names were: Willa Bell, Thomas Walter, Tillman R., Benjamin Franklin, Flossie Juanita, Madge Mae, John Reedie, an unnamed stillborn, and Elizabeth Rebecca. In the early 1900's the family migrated to the Florida panhandle in a covered wagon. I believe they first settled in the Laurel Hill area and later in Century and Milton. Real estate transactions of Thomas Walter Brooks are recorded in the Santa Rosa county court house at Milton. I believe the William Pickens name also appears in those records. Thomas Walter (after whom I am named), Tillman R., and Madge Mae (Mrs Henry C. Franklin) settled and had families in Covington county, Alabama. Tillman married Maude,Henry Franklin's sister and their son was Marvin Brooks. Tom Brooks children grew up in Andalusia. Their names were; Leeman, Grady, Florrie and Ruby. I think one of the latter two had some ties to one of the Bass families still in Covington county."
