Biography

John Throckmorton, eldest son of Job II and Frances Stout Throckmorton, born about 1724, baptized February 9 1746 in Christ Church Shrewsbury, NJ [1] and said to have died just before or at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. He was the administrator of his father's estate in July 25 1748 and was living in Freehold, NJ. He married (1) Lydia West, daughter of Joseph West, by license October 3 1752 and is registered in Trenton, NJ. He is said to have married (2) a "Miss Miller" in 1759 while serving under General Wolfe in the French and Indian Wars. In 1770 Lydia Throckmorton is named in the Town Book of Shrewsbury, NJ. [2] There is a list of suits regarding debt in the Morris County, NJ Court Records vs John Throckmorton. In 1755 he is named in his Aunt Sarah Throckmorton Nichols' will. [3]

Research Note

John E Stillwell seems to have 'blurred' Sitherwood's information which creates a question of who his father was--John or Job. [4]

There are five facts that definitely identify him as Joseph's father and the son of Job II and Frances Stout.

1. Baptism February 9 1746 in Christ Church, Shrewsbury names his parents 2. His father's will naming him the administrator (Sitherwood, page 80) 3. His marriage record to Lydia West in Trenton, NJ. (Stillwell, page 128) 4. Named in his Aunt Sarah Nichols' will and also a bequest to John, son of her brother John, deceased. Sitherwood, page 67.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
