Biography

Chistian B. Thummel wrote, My father, Gerhard William Thummel, born Sept. 4, 1758, and died Oct. 23, 1826, married my mother, Margaretta Christiana Myern, in 1795. She was born May 14, 1763, died 1840, and had four children, viz;

Anton August, born May 17, 1796, died Aug. 1877
Sara Maria, born Dec. 23, 1797
Christian Bernard, April 5, 1802, died May 24, 1881 [He of course, did not include the date of his own death; someone added it later.]
Heinrich Andreas, June 16, 1804, died 1870
Anton August Thummel married Helen Klostermann, born Aug. 1797, in 1819, daughter of Senator or Alderman Klostormann of Aldendorf and came to America in 1835; [Anton and Helen] had 8 children."

The following information came from the pastor of the Lutheran Church in Jever who gave it to Lorraine (Hall) Keith on her visit to Jever.

Gerhard was a merchant in Jever who shipped rye and wheat to Emden and Amsterdam through the port of Hooksiel where he owned three large buildings (warehouses) on the northern side of the port.
