David Tillman was born in 1731 in Brunswick County, Virginia and married Lucy Goodrich in 1752. He died in 1780. [1]
On the 11th day of January, 1782, David Tilman made his will:
He leaves to his dear loving wife Lucy a negro named Salt. To his daughte Martha a negro girl named Charlotte and a spadilla fillie, a bridle and sadle. To his son Roger, one negro boy Abraham, to his son William, one negro boy Tom, to his daughter Elizabeth one negro girl named Silvia. Lucy to keep a negro fellow named James for the maintaining and schooling of my children, and when son Roger comes to the age of twenty and one, then James to be sold and the money divided between Roger, William and Elizabeth. He desires that his lands be sold after the death of my wife, and the money divided between sons Roger and William. He gives daughter Martha one feather bed and furniture when she comes to the years of twenty and one. His wife Lucy to have all the remainder of the household goods. He appoints Lucy Tilman and Briggs Goodrich his sole executors. wits: Briggs Goodrich, Richard Tilman, Anne Tilman.
The will was proved in Brunswick County, Va., 28th January 1782. [note: there is no mention of a supposed daughter Mary in his will. Either the young girl died or there was no such daughter.]
In 1827 there is a record of an appraisement of the property belonging to the estate of a Mary Tilman, she owned two negro slaves. There is no other record and we do not know if this is the supposed child of David and Lucy.
The marriage date of 1752 for David Tillman and Lucy Goodrich is wrong. The birth of first child Roger Tilman is 1773, second child William Tilman is 1774, third child Martha is 1775, fourth child is Elizabeth is 1777. I doubt they would wait 21 years to have their first child. The date of 1752 is the birth date of wife LUCY GOODRICH. David Tillman is approximately 17 tears older than Lucy Goodrich when they married.
Note from Hope Tillman, Tillman-416. My records show that the children were born much earlier than you have listed in the above paragraph - between 1754 and 1762. [1]

In February, 1797, Lucy Goodrich Tillman Harrison, signed a marriage bond, in Brunswick County, between Edward Branch and her daughter Martha Tillman (daughter of David Tlllman, now deceased). In February 1797, it was attested by Martha Tillman's mother, Lucy Goodrich Tillman Harrison, that Martha Tillman was "21 years of age". This would place Martha Tillman's birth around 1776.
I am a direct descendant of David Tillman and Lucy Goodrich, through their daughter Martha Tillman who married my ancestor Edward Branch in February 1797, Brunswick County. They had one child, my 3rd great-grandfather, Edward Tillman Branch, born 1798, in Brunswick County. Edward Tillman Branch moved to Attala County, MS, where he died in 1874. He married one Winiford Ragland, this union produced several children, one being Joseph Arthur Branch, my 2nd great-grandfather.
