Biography

Biographical information added by multiple contributors. Please see profile changes to connect with various contributors.

Abraham Timmons was born in 1765 in Worcester, Maryland. He married Elizabeth (possible maiden name Jones) in 1784 in Dorchcester, Maryland. Children: Stephen, Thomas, Wingate, Joshua, Bassett, Leonard, Lucretia Charlotte. He died about 1811-1812 in Deer Creek, Ross, Ohio.

His probate record gives a date of 26 Oct 1812 Ross Co., Ohio, USA NOTE- There have not been any sources found that confirm who his parents were. Speculation has been that his father was George Timmons brother of Nehemiah Timmons.

  • DNA Haplogroup numbers: My brother's DNA --Timmons DNA Haplogroup number(s); My brothers DNA match/connection to William and Thomas Timmons.

Both of my brothers tested their DNA. My older brother's came back as R-L48 (23andme). My younger brother did the YDNA 67 marker test and came back as R-M269.(FTDNA) His markers line up with many other Timmons on the Timmons DNA project that trace back to Willam and Thomas Timmons and other Timmons from those lines. We are still comparing the DNA matches/markers and I will update as I find more information. So far the matches show that our Abraham does trace back to William Timmons and his brother Thomas Timmons from Ireland/England. We can 100% confirm our link to Abraham through records, sources etc. UPDATE- My brother's bigY (Y 500) test came back and our confirmed Haplogroup is R-S18051.

UPDATE There is a strong DNA match between my dad and the Timmons/Themens from Quebec. Multiple trees trace to a more recent line of Timmons who migrated to Michigan from Quebec (1800's) Another tree traces back to a Noah (Noel) Timmonds/Themens who were in PA (early 1700's) We have a yDNA Themens tester from Quebec. They trace back to this Timmons line of interest. I will update when we get the results.

  • Abraham Timmons- A page from the Probate of Abraham Timmons- The page is from, our Abraham's will. It has a probate date of 1812. There are some surnames of interest listed on the will. Lister and Collins.

UPDATE- I did some research on Nimrod Lister who signed on Abraham's will. I believe he was a close family friend. There doesn't appear to be a marriage between our families however, Nimrod Lister lived in Delaware when our Abraham lived there. Nimrod migrated to Ross Co., Ohio around the same time our Timmons did. -Nimrod Lister BIRTH 1765 Delaware, USA DEATH 1847 (aged 81–82) Ross County, Ohio, USA I did find a marriage between an Elizabeth Lister (probably the grand daughter of Nimrod Lister) and the Corkwell family. The Corkwell's married into the Timmons family.

BELOW- I compiled all the information I gathered from the kits that I have been working on that show an exact DNA match with my dad's kit #. This is important for anyone in Abraham Timmons line or related. In the process of working on those kits I found a DNA match to the Quebec Timmons/Boucher's. That kit matches the rest of them on the exact chr. I CONFRIMED the atDNA matches with multiple tools on Gedmatch.

We have a yDNA tester from a Themens/Timmons in Quebec. Hopefully that turns out to be a yDNA match to some of our other Maryland Timmons and/or any of the Timmons branches that we can't link with a common ancestor.

I added the kit #'s, ancestry for the kit #'s, and some links to ancestry tree's (Quebec lines). That should make it easier to read through.

**NOTE** A lot more research needs to be done. I've hit some major road blocks on the Collins and Adkins lines. Timmons is a given for road blocks. The Quebec line is pretty difficult as well.

Kit #'s used- I added the ancestry ( what I could find) for each one- They need further research/confirmation for accuracy. *T293880 Ken Timmons- My dad

*M092219 *coeusa23combined- K. Collins

*A890609/A445759- Blake Nawaa & Denis Brown Nawaa- Truitt, Brown, Brumblay

*A162135 Robert E Timmons Jr- Timmons & Collins

*A067745 Tehya Boucher- We really don't have anywhere to go on this one atm. This line and DNA match will most likely end up being tied into the Timmons line, we share a strong DNA match, from Quebec- I will eventually get to the Quebec Timmons/Boucher connection. The Timmons tied into my/our specific line (Probably other Timmons of Maryland/PA/VA etc..) that have a connection to Timmons/Boucher's in Quebec.

*A644669 George Adkins- Is an Adkins. That kit shares a DNA match with K. Collins and my dad. That kit doesn't match on the same chr as the other's. I added it because there is a strong DNA match with Kyle Collins and a 9cM match with my dad. I added the ancestry for George Adkins. There is no question he ties in with our Timmons, Truitt's etc...of Maryland.

*M164013 Aaron Paquin- Probably the Truitt's- DNA match ties into the other, confirmed, DNA matches. The chr match is not "exact" with the others but worth adding for further research.

**NOTE**- My dad has a very strong DNA match with that Timmons line. I've been working on the off-branches for my dad's side of the family and I have not found a connection to anyone from that tree. That leads me to believe it goes further back to a Timmons ancestor I haven't found that was related to our Timmons OR there is a connection through the Boucher's who married into the Truitt's of Maryland. In that case I'd think the DNA match would be moderate at best.

Below Information- Source Find a Grave-

On 30 July 1847, Lamberson Collins made his Will, which contained the following:

"I give and devise to my son Ephraim Collins all the land where he now lives, beginning at a post standing in the field on the division line or end of the division line, between my land and the Widow Cannon's. Thence with said division line until it reaches Jonathan Betts' land and thence with said Betts' line until it reaches Peter West's land and thence said West's line until it reaches Peter D. Stockley's line and with said Stockley's line thence to a large sinkhole corner and from said corner with said Stockley's line until it reaches _____. Thence in a straight line to a Red Oak standing in the lane near the Graveyard, thence with a line drawn from said Red Oak down the crop fence to the first beginning Post."

(That provides evidence that there was a Graveyard on the property that Lamberson Collins owned, and was leaving in his Will, to his son, Ephraim Collins.)

Also: "And lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my son Josiah W. Collins, Executor of this my Last Will and Testament." "I give and devise unto my son Josiah W. Collins all the residue of my real estate of which I am now possessed."

Ephraim Collins (1810-1881) and Josiah W. Collins (1811-1883), are both buried in a cemetery that has become known as the "Josiah Collins Family Cemetery".

  • Lamberson Collins married Rhoda Cannon.

Children-

  • 1. Sarah Elizabeth Collins (1795–1875) md Benton H. Marvel.
  • 2. Stephen Collins (b 1804) md Polly Jarman.
  • 3. Cannon Collins (1807-1885) md Sally Jarman.
  • 4. Ephraim Collins (1810-1881) md Nancy Jarman.
  • 5. Josiah W. Collins (1811-1883) md Nancy Summers Jones.
  • 6. William Collins (b 1815) md Celia Timmons.

JARMAN- I have to add what I found on the Jarman line. There is a very close relation to the Timmons of Maryland and a DNA match. I started some research on the Jarmans but I hit quite a few road blocks and mixed information. What I found so far:

Joshua Jarman/Jerman Information/Will

Note: The Jerman family surname has variations that have been found in documents thoughout Delaware, Ohio, Indiana and other states: Jerman, Jarman, German, etc.

Joshua Jerman was the son of William Jarman and Magdalena(Clarkson?). He married Easter Timmons (1775-1855) during the 1790s. Their children:

  • 1. Jesse Jerman (b 1796) md Sarah Timmons.
  • 2. James Jerman (b 1798)
  • 3. Elizabeth Jerman (b 1800) md Southy King.
  • 4. Joshua Jerman (1802-1864) md Margaret "Peggy" Timmons.
  • 5. Noble T. Jerman (1803-1888) md Eliza Metcalf.
  • 6. Nancy Jerman (1806-1872) md Ephraim Collins.
  • 7. Matthias Jerman (1807-1874) md Joanna B.
  • 8. Sarah "Sally Jerman (1809-1883) md Cannon Collins.
  • 9. Mary "Polly" Jerman (1811-1870) md Stephen Collins.
  • 10. John Timmons Jerman (1813-1834)
  • 11. Hetty B. Jerman (1817-1892) md James Burton Prettyman.

The following is an edited transcript of the Last Will and Testament of Joshua Jerman, dated 1 October 1837. It was probated in Sussex Co., DE on 7 February 1838. In the Name of God Amen, I Joshua Jerman of Broad Creek Hundred in the County of Sussex and State of Delaware, being sick and weak in body but of sound disposing mind and memory, praised be God for it, I do therefore make and declare this my Last Will and Testament in manner following, that is to say, informing it is my wish and desire that all just debts be paid.

Item: I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Esther Jerman, the following described piece or parcel of land laying and being in the Hundred, County and State aforesaid it, being part of the lands I now reside on, beginning at a ditch on the County road between the present dwelling and my small out house, running with said ditch through the field until it intersects with a ditch, thence with the other ditch Southwardly until it intersects with another ditch running out to the County Road again, thence a straight line to the Lebenon Line, together with the improvements thereon erected and all privileges and advantages thereof, during her natural life. Also one bed and furniture, one cow with calf, two hogs, her choice of three head sheep, fifty bushels of corn and two stacks of fodder, and no more of my estate.

Item: I give and bequeath to daughter Hetty Prettyman, the wife of James Prettyman, the rest and residue of my Home Plantation, laying at the place of beginning as named above, namely at the ditch on the County Road. And after the death of my wife, the whole of the land as devised to her above, making complete all the lands I now own, whereon I reside, to her the said Hetty Prettyman during her life, and after her death, to her son Joshua Burton Prettyman, to him, his heirs and assigns forever. And the property I have already given to said Hetty, I wish it to be fairly understood she is to retain and keep as her own forever and no more of my estate.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Matthias Jerman, Fifty Acres of land called and known by the name of the Morris Land, adjoining lands of the heirs of Ishu West of Thomas and others, to him in fee simple and no more of my estate.

Item: I give and bequeath to my son Joshua Jerman all the lands laying on the north side of Gum Branch Canal adjoining lands of Southy King and the widow Polly Penewell, to him in fee simple and no more of my estate.

Item: I will and positively order and direct that all the land I own on the South side of the new canal, together with all and singular the personal property of whatever nature or kind, it may be not heretofore willed, to be sold and the proceeds thereof divided with my other money I may leave behind me, either cash or debts due, to the following named children:

  • Jesse Jerman, now of Ohio
  • James Jerman [if living, if not and he never comes for it, to go to the others here named]
  • Betsy King(Jerman), wife of Southy King
  • Nancy Collins (Jerman), wife of Ephraim Collins- Ephraim's parents were Lamberson Collins and Rhoda Cannon** (I can't locate Lamberson Collin's parents, yet, but I suspect Joseph Collins was a brother. Joseph signed on Abraham's will.)
  • Sally Collins, wife of Cannon Collins
  • Polly Collins, wife of Stephen Collins
  • My son Noble Jerman

And also the residue of the corn crop and fodder, share and share alike to them, their heirs and assigns forever and no more of my estate. Lastly, I do hereby nominate and appoint my beloved son, Noble Jerman, the whole and Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all Wills by me heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this to be my only Last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this first day of October in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty Seven [1837]. Signed: Joshua Jerman Sr.

*The Timmons mentioned here are of interest. This is where the Collins came in as well. In one source William Jarman's wife was Magdalena Clarkson.

I did not find a lot of confirmation on Riley M Truitt's ancestry. There were several Riley Truitt's. This needs more research-

LAMBERSON Information & Timmons Connection-

Father- Henry Lambertson I1 b. c 1640, d. 1681 Mother- Katherine (-----)1 b. c 1650, d. 6 Apr 1703

Birth* circa 1678 Sarah Lambertson was born circa 1678 at Talbot Co, MD.1 Will - Mother's* 8 October 1702 Sarah was named in her mother's will on 8 October 1702 at Accomack Co, VA. In her will Katherine Tully gave eldest son Henry Lamberson 1/2 of the worth of the land Richard Lamberson lives on in Somerset County, Maryland. To son Richard Lamberson the remainder of the plantation where he now lives. To Sarah Lamberson. Robert E Timmons Jr- Gedmatch kit # A162135 - We have a very strong DNA match to his Timmons. Unfortunately he is stuck on Jospeh Timmons who married Sarah Collins.

Joseph Timmons m. Sarah E Collins- Joshua Timmons born in 1817 in Delaware died on 12 Nov 1885 in Perry, Pickaway, OH married 05 Apr 1840 in Monroe, Pickaway, OH Sarah Elizabeth Collins, daughter of John M Collins and Eunice Timmons born in 1820 in Ohio died on 04 Aug 1895 in Perry, Pickaway, OH

Here is what I found for his link to the Collins through Joshua Timmons wife-

"In a book called"1796- History of Franklin and Pickaway Counties, Ohio" published by William Brothers in 1880 p.312...Joseph Collins, native of Delaware, settled in Ross County about 1790, died about 1816 and married Clara Timmons.John M. Colins, their son married Eunice Timmons and located in Perry Twonship in March of 1819, occupied by Joseph and Clara's son, Joshua H. Collins.

Joshua then located in Monroe Township, as did Elizabeth Collins who married Joseph Timmons, Isaac settled in Monroe, andrew Collins wo married Elizabeth Timmons and lives in Atlanta; Hester Collins married Salathel Timmons and lived in Perry township."

With the strong match that Robert Timmons has to my dad and the fact that Collins is the most common name connected with all these kits, I feel Collins is the key here. Joseph Collins signed on my Abraham's probate record- Brother in law? Quite possibly Abraham's wife Elizabeth was a Collins- Carny and Brown who signed are not found as common surnames that show up. Brown in Nawaa's line is found on his wife's side and we can exclude it for now.

George A Adkins- A644669 He is here since he has a DNA match to my dad & coeusa aka Kyle Collins - And the fact he is an Adkins who's ancestry traces back to Adkins, Collins, and Truitt. His line traces back to Sampson Adkins b abt 1658 in Somerset Co., Maryland but I am not going to list all the ancestry here. I will focus on names of interest. The line goes from -

  • Sampson Adkins 1658
  • Stanton Adkins 1695
  • Stephen Adkins 1719
  • Stanton Adkins ?
  • Stanton Adkins 1763
  • Mitchell Adkins 1791

Only one person in my Timmons married a surname found in the other kits (Wainwright). From what I have found I believe the connection to the commonly seen surnames of Collins, Adkins and Truitt were directly connected to my Abraham and Elizabeth Timmons ancestry. I've looked through all those gedcoms and I haven't seen any other common surnames that married into my Timmons line anywhere or that look familiar. **Further research is needed, however.

**NOTE** I added the Gedmatch DNA Chart. If anyone is interested it is attached to our Timmons subjects. The chart lists the matching Chr, atDNA, and Generation for the common ancestor. The generation fits the timeline.

I will update this section whenever I find any other supporting information.
