Biography

Alma was born on 27 Feb 1909 in Morgan County, Missouri.[1] She is the third of four children and the only daughter of Orval Tindell and Millie Rebekah Hodges. Her father was a blacksmith and moved around in western Missouri and eastern Kansas. While living in Kansas, she met Burnis Ralph Christopher who was working on a traveling harvesting crew. They were married on 24 February 1929 in Timken, Kansas. They lived and farmed in Kansas, California, and Colorado, and raised five children - three girls and two boys. After a series of down seasons, they moved to Englewood, Colorado, and managed a trailer park until their retirement. They retired to Elizabeth, Colorado, in 1968. Alma died of heart disease on 1 Dec 1974 in Casper, Wyoming.[2] [3] [4]

Visiting relative dies at hospital
    CASPER - Mrs. Alma Nadine Christopher, 65, of Elizabeth, Colo., died Sunday at Natrona County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
    She had been visiting her daughter and son-in-law, the Rev. and Mrs. Gene W. Kennedy in Edgerton for the past three weeks.
    She was born Feb. 27, 1909, at Morgan County, Mo.
    On Feb. 24, 1929, she married Burnis R. Christopher at Rush Center, Kan. He died in 1970.
    She was a member of the Judson Memorial Baptist Church of Denver.
    Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Ruby Kennedy of Edgerton, Mrs. Millie Collier of Aurora, Colo., and Mrs. Helen Blay of Thornton, Colo.; two sons, Raymond of Golden, Colo., and Melvin of Nantucket Island, Mass. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
    The body is being returned to Denver where services will be arranged by the Howard Mortuary. Local arrangements are by the Bustard Funeral Home.

After his mother died in 1925, Burnis spent some time riding the rails as a hobo with friends, then later worked on a traveling harvesting crew. At one stop in Kansas, he met Alma Nadine Tindell. They were married on 24 February 1929 in Timken, Kansas. Burnis died of lung cancer on 25 June 1970 in Lakewood, Colorado. Interment was at the Elizabeth Cemetery. Death
