Josiah Tingley was born on December 30, 1730 in Attleboro, Bristol, Massachusetts to Samuel and Hannah (Pidge) Tingley[1] During the Seven Years War he served in the Second Connecticut Regiment under Col. Nathan Whiting.[2] He married Jemima Crabtree in Attleboro on October 6, 1759. [3][4]
Josiah, his wife, and two eldest children settled in Sackville Township as New England Planters in 1763, settling Lot 66
of the township's Section B.[5][6] Josiah appears as a head of household in Sackville Township in the 1770 census.[7] and in a 1786 list of Sackville residents.[8] Tingley was loyal to Britain during the American Revolution, and so he had to flee the Chignecto region during Jonathan Eddy's Rebellion. He passed away in Sackville on June 16, 1817, and is buried at the Four Corners Burying Ground in Upper Sackville, Westmorland, New Brunswick[9]
