Biography

Agnes (Todd) McKenzie was born in England.

Agnes was born on the 26th of July, 1880, in Wallsend on Tyne, Northumberland, England, United Kingdom, the 1st of 5 daughters of George and Helen (Mains) Todd.^[1]

At 8 months, in 1881, she was living at 24 East Crawford Street, Greenock East, Renfrewshire, Scotland with her parents George ((27) and Helen (25).^[2]

At 10, in 1891, she was living at 25 Newton Street, Greenock West, Renfrewshire, with her parents George (36) and Helen (34), and siblings Janet (7), Helen (5) and Margaret (3).^[3]

at 24, on the 5th of July, 1905, she married John McKenzie at Partick, Glasgow, Scotland.^{[4][citation needed]}

At 26, on the 11th of November, 1906, she and John had their only child, George.^{[5][citation needed]}

At 29, in Aug 1909, John died at 30 in a electric tramcar accident at Hillhead, Glasgow.^{[5][citation needed]}

She took up a live-in position as Mother-house-keeper to 30 children at Quarrier Orphan Homes in Glasgow to support herself and her son.^{[5][citation needed]}

She emigrated to New Zealand.^{[citation needed]}
From 45 to 47, from 1925-1927, she was Matron at Scots College Wellington, New Zealand .^{[5][citation needed]}

At 49, In 1929, with a friend, Lexie Dunn, she ran a boardinghouse called Wharekoa - House of Peace on 231 The Terrace, Wellington. It was during The Depression. Men were bad payers.^{[5][citation needed]}

At 59, in 1939, she was living on Pinehaven Road, Silverstream, Upper Hutt^{[5][citation needed]}

At 73, on the 31st of May, 1954, she died in Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand and was buried in Row No. 46, No. 3675, in the Hamilton East Cemetery, Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand.^[6][7][8]
