Biography

Zachariah Toler was born about 1785 in Virginia.[1] He was the son of David Toler and Susannah Blakenship.[citation needed]

On 7 Nov 1809 in Tazewell County, Virginia,[2] Zacheriah Foler [sic] married Lucy Blankenship.

In 1810,[3] Zachariah Toler was living in Giles County, Virginia as head of household, which included (age range) [probable names]: a) males - 1 (16 - 25) [Zachariah Toler], b) females - 1 (16 - 25) [Lucy Toler].

In 1820,[4] Zachariah Toler was living in Pearlsburg, Giles County, Virginia as head of household, which included: a) males - 3 (<10), 0 (10 - 16), 0 (16 - 18), 0 (18 - 25), 1 (26 - 45) [probably Zachariah Toler], 0 (>45); b) females - 2 (<10), 0 (10 - 16), 0 (16 - 18), 1 (18 - 25) [probably Lucy Toler], 0 (26 - 45), 0 (>45) Of note, on the same enumeration sheet, there were 5 other Toler heads-of-household (i.e., James, Richard, Elisha, David, & William).

In 1830,[5] Zachariah Toler's wife, Lucy Toler, gave birth to a daughter, Jane Toler.

In 1830,[6] Zachariah Toler was living in Logan County, Virginia as head of household, which included: a) males - 2 (< 5), 1 (5 - 10), 1 (10 - 15), 1 (15 - 20), 1 (40 - 50) [probably Zachariah Toler]; b) females - 1 (< 5) [probably Jane Toler], 2 (5 - 10), 1 (10 - 15), 1 (30 -40) [probably Lucy Toler]. Of note, on the same enumeration sheet, there are 3 other Toler heads-of-household (i.e., Elisha, Richard, & David), with their respective families.

In 1835,[7] Zachariah Toler's wife, Lucy Toler, gave birth to a daughter, Lucinda Toler.

In 1840,[8] Zachariah Toler was living in Logan County, Virginia as head of household, which included (age range) [probable names]: a) males - 1 (<5) [James Toler], 1 (10 - 14) [Henry Toler], 1 (15 - 19) [Charles Toler], 1 (50 - 59) [Zachariah Toler]; b) females - 2 (5 - 9) [Jane & Lucinda Toler], 1 (10 - 14) [Dicy Toer], 1 (40 - 49) [Lucy Toler].

In 1850,[1] Zacheriah Taler [sic] (age 65, born Virginia) was living in Wyoming County, Virginia as head of household with his wife, Lucy Taler [sic] (age 55, born Virginia), and with James Taler [sic] (age 12, born Virginia. Zachariah's occupation was "none". Neither Zachariah nor Lucy could read or write. Of note, on the same census enumeration sheet[1] was the listing for Zachariah's son, John Toler, and John's family.

In 1860,[9] Zachariah Toler (age 80, born Virginia) was living in Wyoming County, Virginia in the household of Charles Toler (age 35, born Virginia), with Ellen Toler (age 25, born Virginia), and their Toler children, born Virginia (age, sex): i) Milton (11, M), ii) Lewis (9, M), iii) Nancy A. (8, F), iv) Lucinda (6, F), v) James M. (2, M). Charles' occupation was a farmer; he owned real estate valued at $475 and personal estate at $105. Zachariah's occupation was a farm laborer. Zachariah could not read or write. Neither Zachariah, Charles, or Ellen could read or write. Of note, on the same enumeration sheet, Zachariah's wife, Lucinda Toler (age 70), was living in the household of Peter & Lucinda Cline, with their Cline children.
