Torbett, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 from complications of pneumonia. Mr. Torbett was born on March 16, 1922 in Monroe Co, TN. He moved to Lakeland in 1974 from Athens, TN. Ulyss Torbett was a US Army WWII veteran, and he worked for Conoco Oil Company as a truck driver for 17 years. He was a member of Medulla Baptist Church and enjoyed playing golf, yard work and music. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Minnie Torbett; his sisters, Bertha Norwood, Osie Woody and Cordie Malone; his brothers, Carl Torbett, Herb Torbett, Andrew Torbett, Fred Torbett, Leslie Torbett, Luther Torbett and Roy Bookout. Mr. Torbett is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Nola Torbett of Lakeland; his daughter Joan Torbett of Lakeland; his son, Terry Torbett of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Heather Stott of NC, Katie Torbett and Ryan Torbett both from SC. Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 13, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel, 2125 So. Bartow Rd. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment at Lakeland Memorial Gardens.
