James Trefry was born April 23, 1790, the son of Joshua Pitman Trefry and Elizabeth Kinney of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia[1]
He married Rebecca Crowell, daughter of Reverend Thomas Crowell, and had children[1], including:
Thomas Crowell Trefry,born 1813, who married Lydia Ann Churchill, daughter of Lemuel Churchill III, and who died May 16, 1900.[2]
James Trefry, born March 9, 1817, who married Theodosia Hatfield, daughter of Colonel Job Hatfield on November 13, 1839, and lived in Michigan[3].

Catherine Trefry Currier, born 1819, who married William Currier, son of Nathaniel Currier, and who died March 5, 1891[4][5]
Joshua Pitman Trefry, born January 11, 1824, who married Janet Crowell, daughter of Paul Crowell of Barrington on May 11, 1848[6][7]
Mary Agnes Trefry Moulton, born 1829 who married Jonathan Moulton, son of Jonathan Moulton on October 22, 1848, and who died November 6, 1859
Andrew Trefry, born circa 1831, who married Sarah Anne Allen, daughter of Lyman Allen on February 4, 1852[8]
Jane Trefry Gray, born circa 1837, who married John Gray, son of James Gray I[9][10]
Harvey D. Trefry, born January 4, 1838, who married Elizabeth Crowell, daughter of Joseph Crowell of Barrington on Feb 8, 1863[11]
Richard H. Trefry born 1839, who married Margaret Trask, daughter of Elkanah Trask on June 15, 1861; and second married Annie Smith, daughter of Timothy Smith of Cape Island on April 11, 1898; and who died May 21, 1901[12]
After Rebecca died, he married Sarah (Hicks) Tedford, widow of Captain Jacob Tedford 1st.
