Birth Estimate

Different birth locations have been given: Freehold Township and Middleton Township, in Monmouth County, Province of New Jersey. Additional research is needed. He descends from French Huguenot and Dutch settlers in New Netherlands.

Larue jacob Truax was born around 1705 in New Jersey, the son of Philippe Truax and Sarah Larue The assertion is undocumented.[1]

Marriage Estimate

He married Rebecca Abigail Stillwell around 1730 in New Jersey. The marriage is undocumented.

Migration to Pennsylvania

Larue moved his family to Cumberland County, Pennsylvania about 1764. His son, Joseph Truax, who was born in 1758 produced documentation of his birth in support of his Revolutionary War Pension application in front of the Bedford County Court. He stated under oath he was brought to Bedford County at the age of six years.[2]

Death

He is reported to have passed away in 1774 in Ayr Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. The assertion is undocumented.

Grave Location

According to Findagrave, he is buried at Pleasant Union Church Cemetery located in Clearville, Bedford County, Pennsylvania.[3]No tombstone is presented, thus, the assertion is undocumented.

Research Notes

The pension application of Joseph Truax is inaccurate in so far as stating he was brought to Bedford County. At that time, it was Cumberland County. Bedford County was erected in 1771.[4][5]

Jacob Truax was born no later than 1730 based on his Will, dated 1807 in Belmont Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. His proven son John Truax was born in 1755, placing the year of birth of this Jacob Truax before 1730.

The 1785 Will of Elias Stillwell names daughter Rebecca Coombes. There was clearly no such woman as “Rebecca Stillwell”. The 1807 Will of Jacob Truax names wife Ruth.

There is absolutely no proof that I have yet discovered that proves that Ruth was a Pittman, or the date of their marriage.

There is no "Jacob LaRue Truax", or "LaRue Jacob Truax". I have not personally yet seen any document that proves Sarah, wife of Philip Truax, was a LaRue.

Records from Bedford County, Pennsylvania were not burned, or lost, or destroyed despite what has been claimed. They are still extant. There was a Jacob Truax Sr., and a Jacob Truax Jr. living at the same time in Bedford County, Pennsylvania in the 1770's.

Jacob Truax Sr. disappears from the Bethel, Bedford County, Pennsylvania Tax Lists in 1774, making the date of death for this elder Jacob Truax likely around that date. This also clearly differentiates between the two men, as the younger was the only one alive and of a young enough age to have been the Revolutionary War Patriot.

This Jacob Truax Jr. is the one that died after 27 October 1807.

Sr. and Jr. during this time period, do not necessarily indicate a parent-child relationship. This is the problem everyone has hit with this Truax line. The Jacob Truax named in the Will of Philip Truax, could refer to this younger Jacob Truax, who we have proof was of legal age in 1750.

Assuming that Philip Truax was born 1676, and being certain that Jacob the younger was born before 1730, the Jacob Truax named in the Will of Philip Truax could be Jacob Truax the younger, or Jacob Truax the elder. I have seen some claim there is a record where Jacob Truax Jr. appointed someone else as the administer of the estate of Philip Truax, citing distance as the reason. However, I have never seen this document to know if the record really names "Jr.", or not, because that would be a significant piece of evidence if it names Jacob Jr. instead of Jacob Sr..
