Research Notes

Mother identified as Margaret in his marriage record, but based on father's marriage record and 1851 census his mother was Catherine (Frye) Tryon.

In the 1900 census there is Emma Tryon, age 24, daughter-in-law, in the household with children Mary G Tryon 3, Gordon A Tryon 2, and Robert Tryon 2 months. Who is she wife of? Robert is the only adult son living there but my impression is that he is not her husband and he is only 20. There is also Frank Robert Tryon (1898-1979) and Gertrude Maggie (Tryon) Kilbourn (abt.1896-) who both list James and Emma Tryon as their parents. It is sure looking like Emma was the first wife of Lewis's son James who later has two more wives and another child.

I am not finding further record of son Frederick. Does Frederick appear in 1900 census?

Entry in 1900 census says that they moved from Canada to New York in 1887.

Is 1881 census properly indexed (index says Lucas)

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M473-R6P

For the records that may match in NYS (1905) - and subsequent records for children of that couple - indications are they changed residence to USA (NYS) about 1888. (Per census reports)

In the 1861 census it turns out Caleb Tryon is 39, not 59 (mis-transcription).

In the 1851 census indexed under the name Irion, mis-transcription for Trion) I find Caleb, 38, Catherine 24, George 8, Lewis 2, Jane? 6, Sarah 14. I'm fairly sure it is the right family, as Caleb is always described as a carpenter. 1851 is in Crosby, Leeds Co., Canada West (Ontario as it became).

Given that his residence was North Crosby when he married in 1873 the 1871 reference you give sounds very plausible. His parents' names were given as Caleb and Margaret Tryon. In the 1861 census I found a Caleb Trio [sic] aged 59, with children George 14 or 16?, Lewis 10, Alford 8, William 6, Marie 30 (second wife, eldest daughter?), Jane 14, Lucinda 4, Emeline 2. This fits Lewis as far as it goes. The 1871 census appears on Ancestry.com, but the list consists of Caleb 48, Moriah 38, Lewis 20, Alford 18, William 16, Sinda (Lucinda?) 15, Mary 11, Lucus 9, Wellington 7, Calvin 4.

1871, possibly him, again, no image available through familysearch: "Canada Census, 1871," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M473-R6P : 13 November 2014), Lewis Tryon, North Crosby, South Leeds, Ontario, Canada; citing p. 28, line 18; Library and Archives Canada film number C-10002, Public Archives, Ottawa, Ontario; FHL microfilm 4,396,624.

1881 Canada census he may be indexed as Lucas, but I don't have access to image to determine if that is an indexing error.

Lucinda Fitzpatrick resides with them 1881.

I think I find them in upstate NY, 1905, living w/ 3 children including Elmer Tryon-2633. In 1920 Elmer's brother James and wife reside with him. That James fits the age for Lewis' son James Henry Tryon. Caveat - the 1905 familysearch link leads to a mislabeled page.
