Charlotte de la Trémoille was the daughter of Claude de la Trémoille, 2nd Duc de Thouars, and his wife, Charlotte Brabantine of Nassau, daughter of William 'the Silent' of Nassau, Prince of Orange and his third wife, Charlotte de Bourbon.[1]
Her birth date is not clear, stated as December 1599 by one secondary source[2] and circa 1602 by another[3] but neither give any primary sources.
Marriage
She married 26 June 1626, James Stanley, then known by the title Lord Strange, son and heir of William Stanley, 6th Earl of Derby, and his wife, Elizabeth de Vere.[1]
Her portion or dowry amounted to £24,000[1] which was used to buy lands in England to be settled on the couple according to a charter dated 25 March 1629.[4]
She had letters of denization from Charles I, in September 1626,[1] noted in the Privy Seals 6 September[5] and the Patent Rolls 12 September[1] but apparently wasn't actually naturalised by taking the oath before the Lord Keeper until 29 January 1628/29.[6]
