John Tubman was born free on 20 Nov 1820 in Bucktown, Dorchester County, Maryland.
He married Araminta Ross in 1844 (who changed her name to Harriet (Ross) Tubman (1822-1913) at the time of their marriage)
John married another woman, Caroline, when Harriet fled slavery in 1849. He refused to follow Harriet north when she returned for him in 1851.
John was murdered by a white neighbor in 1867.[1]
He passed away in Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland on 30 Sep 1867, at the age of 46, and was buried in the African-American Cemetery, Halfway, Washington County, Maryland[2]
