Biography

Mollie and her family settled in Odessa, Delaware, after living in a few other nearby places, including Blackbird. Before her marriage, she worked as a laundress in a shirt factory. After her marriage to George Carson Boyd, she helped him with his flower store, while also taking care of her growing family, which consisted of 4 daughters: Martha, Elizabeth, Ellen and Katharine (Midge.) She was a homebody, who never socialized much. Her best friend was Luli Westerfield, who lived in Port Deposit, MD. My mother remembers her Grandmother Mollie as an older woman whose personality was very quiet. Her great hobby was working crossword puzzles. When she passed away, my great grandfather was deeply affected with sorrow at the loss of his companion of over 40 years.
