Biography

William Chapman Turner was born on 14 Dec 1863 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the son of Randolph Turner and Eleanor Elizabeth Wingo Turner. [1] He is listed as a “laborer on farm”at age 15 on the 1880 Census. His father is listed as a farmer on the same census so it appears William was working with his father on the family farm.[2]

On his death certificate, William is listed as a musician. He died in an automobile accident on 11 Jul 1923 at age 59 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He had never married. [3] He was buried at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, USA.[4]
