Disputed Parents

  • According to the Mayflower Families "Silver book" on Edward Doty, Job Bryant's wife was Mary Turner born on 31 May 1745 in Middleboro, Plymouth, Province of Massachusetts Bay, the daughter of Japhet and Elizabeth (Morse) Turner.[1]
  • According to "The Descendants of Stephen Bryant of Plymouth and of His Son-in-Law Lt. John Bryant of Plympton,"[2] D. Alden Smith states that Job Bryant married at Bridgewater, 3 May 1764, Mary Turner, daughter of Benjamin Jr. and Mary (Briggs) Turner.

Biography

Mary Turner was born on 31 May 1745 in Middleboro, Plymouth, Province of Massachusetts Bay, the daughter of Japhet and Elizabeth (Morse) Turner.[3]

Mary Turner was mentioned in her paternal grandmother's will, dated 26 Aug 1766:

To "my aforesaid daughter Elizabeth Pratt , & my fifteen grandaughters namely ... Mary Turner, ... all my household goods, & other estate not given away to be equally divided ...."[4]

She may have married Job Bryant, the son of Ichabod and Ruth (Staples) Bryant, on 03 May 1764 in Bridgewater.[5][1] (see Disputed Marriage, above.)

Job died after 27 November 1807, the date his will was signed. His will was proved 8 March 1808, and named wife Mary; Bryant children Nathan, Calvin, Job Staples, Samuel, David, Asa, Clement; daughter Anna Phillips, wife of Abiel Phillips; Thirza Dickerman, wife of Manassah Dickerman; and Harriet Dunbar, wife of David Dunbar. To son Oliver he bequeathed all his estate, Oliver to support his mother.[1]

Mary Bryant died sometime after being named in her husband's will in 1807.[1]
